Gasket: Sealing and Damping in Speaker Installation

In the construction of a speaker, different types of gaskets and their materials have different characteristics. Shaped rubber gaskets are widely used because they are easy to compress, resilient, and provide a seal which prevents air and vibrations from escaping. They also resist moisture and chemicals as well as having a wide temperature range. Silicone gaskets are high temperature suited gaskets due to overheating as well as possessing good electrical insulation so they can be used in range of devices. Cork gaskets are valued in less critical applications for reliability due to their compressibility and lower price. Lightness along with sealing and vibration resistance foam gaskets have is provided by neoprene and EPDM rubbers. Copper and stainless steel gaskets are common metal gaskets which are often not used in speakers because they are strong and endure high pressure and temperatures, making them less common in speakers compared to other materials.
